Teen free after attack on gang 'thug' local gold coast news The mother of a southside soldiers gang member tried to bribe a teenager who attacked her son, asking $10, 000 in exchange for dropping serious grievous bodily harm charges, a court has been told. Benjamin clyde bell, 19, hit ryan egbars in the face with a beer bottle in an effort to protect his girlfriend during an altercation with mr egbars in july last year. The southport district court was told mr egbars had been at the 7-Eleven store in palm beach with up to 10 friends when bell and his girlfriend tiffany hazel arrived. The court was told ms hazel and mr egbars started arguing before it was alleged he spat on her and yelled: "Where's your boyfriend.I'll bash you and your girlfriend.I'll bash anyone. " The court was told mr egbars continued the abuse before again spitting in ms hazel's face and slapping her. Defence barrister sean cousins said bell, an apprentice cabinet maker, was provoked and acted on instinct after seeing the attack on his girlfriend. At the beginning of his submission mr cousins asked that bell be sentenced to jail but not actually serve time behind bars. "I accept there is substantial provocation by the complainant but i don't think it's a case where you can say he deserved what he got.He may have deserved something.
